The Gary Burroughs Award for Excellence is given in honor of the late Gary Burroughs who passed away in 2000 while holding the office of Chamber President.
This award is given each year at the President's discretion to a person who best exemplifies excellence in assisting our Chamber and in serving our communities.
This year, President Barb Smith was honored to give this very prestigious award to Mr. Steve Shumski.
Smith states, "Steve Shumski exemplifies the “can do” attitude that is absolutely critical to our community evolving and thriving in the future. He is incredibly bright, exceptionally hard working and truly one of our top community assets."
Shumski is currently the CTE/Technology Director for Newport School District and the Vice President of the Board of the Chamber.
As the CTE/Technology Director for NSD, he works closely with all career and technical education programs for the district which includes; business & marketing, health & fire science, communications & broadcasting (KUB’s FM), and ag mechanics that includes welding and fabrications, construction and horticulture. In addition he is responsible for the Enterprise Data and Phone Network for the School District.
