The Priest River Times has been serving Pend Oreille River Communities since 1914.  It has more of a Priest River focus but covers Newport area news and events as well.  Also hitting newstands once a week on Wednesdays and viewable online.

City of Newport, WA

The City of Newport, with a population of 2126, is located on the Washington/Idaho border just west of the Pend Oreille River. With a comfortable elevation of 2,160 feet, Newport is a city that provides a unique experience of four distinct seasons.  We are less than an hour's drive north of Spokane, which has an International airport for easy access to our city. From Spokane you can travel through Newport to ski resorts in both the U.S. and Canadian Rockies. Summers present an enjoyable scenic drive through rugged mountains and along pristine rivers. PORTA - Pend Oreille River Tourism Alliance, Newport, WA

The purpose of the Pend Oreille River Tourism Alliance is to create a responsible tourism economy in the Pend Oreille River Community in ways sensitive to the culture, heritage and environment of the region.  PORTA provides an organized forum through which all tourism interests in Pend Oreille County can come together for a coordinated, focused tourism development program.  We work to maximize additional overnight visitors and traveler expenditures, increase state and local tax revenues, and provide job opportunities.  Check out the PORTA website for all the tourism-related information and attractions in our area.

Pend Oreille River Water Trail

If you're looking for healthy, active, outdoor entertainment, why not explore our recently developed Water Trail?  Stretching 70 miles along the scenic Pend Oreille River, from Oldtown, ID to Boundary Dam up north, the views, wildlife and overall experience is nothing short of spectacular.  More information on the Pend Oreille River Water Trail here.

The International Selkirk Loop

Marvel at the awesome beauty around every corner of the International Selkirk Loop, a 450 km / 280-mile scenic drive encircling the spectacular Selkirk Mountains in eastern Washington, northern Idaho and southeastern British Columbia.  Explore charming communities along the route that are filled with fascinating history and fun festivals. Traverse the relatively quiet highways via motorcycle, bike, or car, and check out unique birding locations and picturesque settings.  The International Selkirk Loop, has been designated one of only 32 All-American Road National Scenic Byways in the U.S., and named one of the Top 10 Scenic Drives in the Northern Rockies.
